The World Food Platform West Africa Region
The World Food Platform West Africa is a regional initiative designed to strengthen food systems in one of the world's most agriculturally active yet highly vulnerable regions. West Africa is a major producer of staple crops, cocoa, cashew, fruits, and fisheries, while also facing recurring challenges related to climate shocks, population growth, infrastructure gaps, and market volatility. Food systems in the region are closely linked to smallholder farming, seasonal rainfall, and informal trade networks. Floods, droughts, post-harvest losses, and limited storage and logistics capacity continue to affect food availability and prices. At the same time, West Africa shows strong momentum in agri-entrepreneurship, digital marketplaces, regional trade integration, and value-added processing. The World Food Platform West Africa provides a structured platform to convert this momentum into lasting impact.
The Platform brings together governments, agribusinesses, cooperatives, traders, research institutions, development partners, and investors. It supports collaboration across productivity enhancement, food security, nutrition, logistics, trade facilitation, and climate-resilient practices.
By aligning regional cooperation with global expertise, the World Food Platform West Africa strengthens resilience, supports inclusive growth, and advances sustainable food systems that improve livelihoods and long-term food security across the region.
