The World Food Platform North Africa Region

The World Food Platform North Africa is a regional initiative designed to support food security and system resilience across a region facing structural resource constraints and growing demand. North Africa is characterized by arid and semi-arid climates, water scarcity, rapid urbanization, and a strong dependence on food imports, particularly grains and staples.

Food systems in the region are highly sensitive to climate variability, global price movements, and supply-chain disruptions. At the same time, North Africa has long agricultural traditions, strategic Mediterranean trade links, and increasing investment in irrigation efficiency, agri-processing, and renewable-energy-supported agriculture. The World Food Platform North Africa provides a structured environment to align these efforts and strengthen regional cooperation.

The Platform connects governments, agribusinesses, cooperatives, research institutions, investors, and logistics providers. It focuses on improving productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening food safety, supporting small and medium producers, and enhancing trade and storage infrastructure.

By linking national priorities with regional and global expertise, the World Food Platform North Africa supports resilient and sustainable food systems, improves food availability and affordability, and contributes to long-term economic stability and food security across the region.
