The World Food Platform South Eastern Europe Region

The World Food Platform South Eastern Europe is a regional initiative designed to strengthen food systems in a region defined by diversity, transition, and strategic connectivity. South Eastern Europe combines agricultural traditions, emerging food industries, and important trade corridors linking Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

Food systems in the region are shaped by mixed-scale farming, varied climates, and evolving market structures. Producers face challenges related to climate variability, fragmented supply chains, limited investment, and the need to modernize processing and logistics. At the same time, the region holds strong potential in specialty crops, livestock, food processing, and regional trade integration. The World Food Platform South Eastern Europe provides a structured framework to support this transformation.

The Platform brings together governments, agribusinesses, producer organizations, cooperatives, research institutions, and investors. It supports collaboration across productivity improvement, food security, value-chain development, food safety, and trade facilitation.

By linking regional capabilities with global expertise and partnerships, the World Food Platform South Eastern Europe strengthens resilient, inclusive, and competitive food systems. It supports economic development, regional cooperation, and long-term food security while helping the region integrate more effectively into global food markets.
