The World Food Platform South America–Caribbean Region
The World Food Platform South America–Caribbean is a regional initiative designed to strengthen food systems across a highly interconnected and climate-sensitive region. The subregion combines major agricultural producers, small island economies, coastal fisheries, and tourism-driven food demand, making food security, trade continuity, and resilience shared priorities. Food systems here are shaped by export-oriented agriculture in South America and high import dependence across much of the Caribbean. Climate change, hurricanes, droughts, flooding, and supply-chain disruptions pose recurring risks, while infrastructure gaps and logistics costs affect food availability and affordability. At the same time, the region holds strong advantages in tropical agriculture, fisheries, biodiversity, renewable energy integration, and agri-processing. The World Food Platform South America–Caribbean provides a coordinated framework to connect these strengths.
The Platform brings together governments, agribusinesses, producer groups, fisheries authorities, logistics providers, research institutions, and development partners. It supports collaboration across food security planning, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture and fisheries, trade facilitation, food safety, and regional value-chain development.
By linking South American production capacity with Caribbean food security needs and global expertise, the World Food Platform South America–Caribbean strengthens resilience, promotes sustainable growth, and supports stable, diversified, and future-ready food systems across the region.
